Help with .lay files? |
Tried searching the site and the web, but can't find info on this..
tried posting in the Zmud forums, but no one seems to know...
Zmud 7.21 , win xp
there are no .lay files in the character folders, just in the main zmud folder,
and "use layout" is unchecked on my characters.
not real sure what they .lay files do...? do I need .lay files at all?
and if so, should they be in the zmud folder, or the character folder, and should
each .lay file have a name unique to the character?
Should "use layout" be checked?
Thanks again for any help.
the reason i'm asking is, I've just lost alot of aliases and trigs
by switching between 2 different characters.
I tried Cmud trail version a few months ago, but it seemed very complicated,
and when i tried to install another trial today, it wouldn't let me. I'd consider
using Cmud if i could try it again, and this loss of aliases and trigs thing is not an issue with it. |

.lay files are layout files. I think that it only tries to create a .lay file in the character file if you customize the layout for a session. It has nothing to do with aliases or triggers. The equivalent file in Cmud is .xly files.

What would cause aliases and trigs to disappear then?
If I close zmud, they disappear. I'll have to make new ones,
and then copy the folder while zmud is still open to maybe have a backup...dunno |

Unfortunately zMUD is subject to memory corruption, and it sounds like that's what happened. You can try to do a text export to see if that will recover them.

Questions for zMUD should be posted to the zMUD Forum and not the CMUD Forum.

Hi,
As I mentioned in your previous thread, I still think you need unique .lay files for each character even if you dont have the ticks marked.
http://forums.zuggsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28539
that link is the thread that I infered this from when I was struggling with setting up multiple characters for the same mud. Also making sure that you have different session ID's for each character too. |
