zMUD not starting! |
I've downloaded the newest version of zMUD from the site and installed it under Win XP under a Restricted User profile. It all went fine, but when I wanted to run the program nothing happened. I only got the loading cursor(the sandclock with the normal cursor) for a few seconds and then there was nothing. What can I do about it and can I run it under Win98 on my other PC?

Zmud 7.05 has to be instaled and I believe ran for the first time on an administrator account.
Zmud should also work on Win 98 |

This has become one of the most common problems encountered here recently. The problem is most prevalent on Windows XP systems, but can occur on any system in which the LicCtrl service has been stopped or disabled.
This problem typically is diagnosed by zMud starting, a background activity cursor being displayed then zMud stops. If the splash screen appears or you get a licensing dialog this is not the problem.
The LicCtrl service is part of the eLicense Copy Protection scheme that Zuggsoft employs within its products. When this service is not running, the eLicense wrapper is unable to extract and execute the program.
To restart the LicCtrl service, one must goto the Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
The following procedure should work on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 and most likely any forthcoming versions of Microsoft Windows.
Note: This will not work on Windows 95, Windows 98/SE, or Windows ME.
There are two ways to do this. The quick way, or the more standard way. First I will show you the more standard way.
1. Open your Control Panel.
2. Open Administrative Tools.
3. Open Services.

I just downloaded v7.13b. I installed it and before I got to the eLicense window, zMUD died (kinda like what happens if LicCtrl isnt working). I tried reinstalling zMUD several times, restarting, completely deleting my zMUD directory, and restarting LicCtrl several times. Nothing seems to be fixing this. Im installing zMUD on the admin account... and in WinXP. Ive completely run out of ideas.
