v7.13a or whatever it is error |
When I load up zmud it states that some of my global aliases/variables may have been corrupted. This was after a memory dump error after the program ended and a successful installation update from 7.12 which had a memory dump, which you fixed, but did not show that message. I save all my globals and whatnot so this isn't much of a big deal. Just hopefully it doesn't wipe them everytime.
Thanks for an excellent product, been using it since 97 and only encountered problems recently. |

I was just about to write the same.
Havnt had any problems with any updates, ever.
Been runing the newest version ever since it was public.
I don't know if I get the same error message as Kuga but mine says.
"Possible corrupted settings file: G:\Games\Zmud\global.mud"
When I installed 7.13 I noticed it had overwritten my old global.mud but luckly for me global_bak.mud had my old settings. So I made a copy of the new global.mud and started using my old global_bak.mud.
The thing is, the error message didnt happen untill one day later so me changing back to my old global.mud can't be the problem.
I was messing around with alarms just prior.
Was testing if a global alarm would set off at the same time in all windows. But nothing happend so I deleted the alarm.
I quit zmud(forgot why) and when I restarted it again it said the whole "possible corrupted.. etc"
Now I been checking how to cause the problem.
If I change back to the original global.mud it's all peachy. But as soon as add something, like a variable or new button and restart, error message pops up.
In short:(in 7.13)
1: possible corrupted global.mud
2: Close zmud
3: Delete global.mud
4: Copy a clean global.mud to zmud directory.
5: Start Zmud
6: Load one char then quits(right side button)
7: Restart Zmud, everything is fine.
8: Settings-> Global Settings...
9: New -> Variable
name: testing
value: testing
and push save
10: Push X in up-right corner to close settings editor.
11: Push Quit, right side button.
12: Restarts Zmud. Compains about possible corrupt global.mud
Prehaps 7.13 have a problem saving global.mud?
Btw, I upgraded from 7.12 to 7.13 using zmuds "Check of new versions". If that could have contributed to the problem..
Anyways, let me and kuga know if you solved it. Thanks |

You need to run 7.13A If it doesn't say 7.13a in the splash screen when you run zMUD, then you don't have the newest version. This is the bug (global.mud is an inherited settings file) that was fixed in 7.13a.
If you still have this problem using 7.13a, then post again. But I tried your procedure using 7.13a on my system and didn't get any error. |

I used the check new versions and installed that way, I redownloaded the same file from the normal public downloads section and that install worked. No idea what caused that to happen, the splash screen shoots by now and I cannot see if there is an a but the error does not occur. When I do version history it states it is 7.13 updated June 16th 2005.

If you are using 7.13a then the initial character selection screen will also show "zMUD 7.13a" on the left side above the castle graphic. Also, it will display 7.13a if you do a Help/About menu. If neither of these indicators show the "a" after 7.13 then you should download it again. The filename of the download didn't change, so you can't use that to determine if you have the "a" version.

OK, this is really wierd. You are right. I checked the file on the web site and it was the 7.13 version instead of the 7.13a version. I *know* I downloaded the correct version before, because several users I was working with on the corrupted settings files downloaded it and tested it. Somehow the original 7.13 must have gotten uploaded later, overwritting the correct version. I have no idea how it happened, but it's working now.
I wish wierd stuff like this would *stop* happening. I'm getting tired of this release. |

Gday Zugg,
Sorry to be a pain but I'm still getting the "Possible corrupted settings file: C:\zmud\global.mud" on startup
I've got 7.13a and trying to do some custom buttons for global use.
with a fresh global.mud file it's not a problem but as soon as you change anything in the global.mud
the error requester shows on startup. I've even tried a uninstall/reinstall with no luck :(
It not like it's a great problem or anything, zmud still works fine and all.. just a little annoying is all
but I'll live through it till a answer is found ;) I can imagine it's driving you more nuts than anyone else.
best of luck hunting this one down :)
Mark. |

Hail Zugg.
Just I would like to say thanks for an excellent product.
There is nothing except perhaps my inlines and gym card that brought me this much joy.
You said I should write if I had the same problem in 7.13a.
And I do.
My system is:
Intel P4 2,80GHz on Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
2 SATA 160gb in RAID0
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
First I tried to download and reinstall in over the old zmud.
No luck.
Then I..
1: saved my MUD folder and char database file.
2: unlicensed
3: unistalled
4: deleted zmud folder.
5: reboot
6: Installed 7.13a
7: Licensed
8: Started Zmud. No problem at this point. Then exited.
8: Copied my MUD folder and char database to zmud root.
9: Started Zmud. Still no problem. All my chars are working 100%
10: Settings-> Global Settings...
11: New -> Variable
name: testing
value: testing
and push save
12: Push X in up-right corner to close settings editor.
13: Push Quit, right side button.
14: Restarts Zmud. Compains about possible corrupt global.mud
15: I saved default.mud and global.mud from after I installed zmud and copied them to zmud root. replacing those "corrupt" files.
16: Start Zmud, no error with a clean global.mud.
After that I tried to delete my char database, so zmud would look the same as when I installed it.
Then tried step 10-16 with same result.
As SBG said before me. It's no biggie that global.mud doesnt work. Iam not using it very much except for a couple custom buttons. |

I am still getting that error as well about global.mud.
I use it somewhat heavily but when I need it, I can redo the globals since I have them copied down in notepad in case I would lose them. |

I tried
#GVAR testing testing
and that too corrupts my global.mud.
Zugg or whoever works on zmud, do you want me to send a copy of my "corrupt" global.mud, or copy of the whole installation.
Perhaps it's not corrupt, maybe the part of zmud that checks the integrety of settings file is somewhat bugging?
Sorry for going on about this, just trying to help the little way I can to track this bugger down.
Btw, Kuga and SBG. Are any of you using some sort of plugin to zmud? Iam using HTLMLOG.
Sincerly

Gday Mortis,
Yes I'm using two plugins "Charbal's HTML Logger" and "zMapper"
but even with these not installed the error still comes up.
personally it's not really a "corrupt" file as mine with the custom
buttons still works, I just get a error requester popup on startup of zmud
I just click "OK" and continue on my merry way
As you have said, it's more like a integrety check gone wrong. |

Hi Mortis, I do not use any plug ins. And to agree with SBG and what you stated, it looks like a file integrity scan. It's probably something small just fun to find.

Yes, please email me your corrupted GLOBAL.MUD file. I have followed your steps on my system here and I can't get it to fail.
The "possibly corrupt" error message is a new detection that has been added to recent versions. It adds a stamp to the end of your settings file, and when the file is loaded, zMUD looks for this stamp. In the past, zMUD only had stamps in various places within the settings file, but not at the end.
Plugin information is added to the end of a settings file, before this new stamp. So it's possible that a plugin can cause this problem if it doesn't properly save and read it's own settings. That's the reason the new check was actually added.
So yes, clicking OK on the error shouldn't cause any problem as it's just a warning error and doesn't prevent your settings from getting loaded like the normal "settings corrupted" error. But I'd still like to determine what the exact cause of the problem is. |

No, I didn't get the file. Try sending it to the sales@zuggsoft.com account since it doesn't do as much spam filtering.

Gday Zugg,
Sorry to drag an old subject back to life, but have you made any headway
on this problem yet? as I'm still having this error even after upgrading to 7.20a.
All the best,
Mark. |

I never got your file, so nothing has been done about this. Nobody else has reported any problem with a corrupted Global.mud file since 7.13a. That bug was fixed in 7.13b. So something else is corrupting your file. You can still send me your file if you'd like.

Ok will post that to you now ;)
but to just let you know that this problem as been happening
here from 7.13 and continues all the way through to 7.20a :(
7.13b did nothing to fix the problem for me. So hopefully you
can help me find out what it is on my system that is breaking it :)
Thanks heaps,
Mark |

Ok Zugg I mailed the file to sales@......
I did a re-install to see about fixing the plugin prob
and as I'm sure you know it overwrote my old global.mud
so I re-customized my global again and again the error shows
on startup :( hope you can help me track this down, as I've said
before it doesn't stop zMud from working but as you can imagine
it's starting to get very annoying.....
All the best,
Mark |

I upgraded to 7.20 and the error still exists. I have no plugins and wiped my install as well as my global.mud file. This has not worked, if you wish me to email the file to you just respond to this post Zugg.

OK, I think I found the problem with this again. With the Global.Mud file that you sent me I was able to reproduce the error. I have uploaded a new version 7.20b that should fix this now. With this new version I was able to successfully load the global.mud file that you sent me.
Download the new version and give it a try and let me know if it's finally fixed. |

The file that was uploaded was not 7.20b, it was 7.20a as stated when I downloaded and installed it.
