Mapping performance problems |
As I've been mapping my mud, and my map gets larger and larger, I've been hitting performance problems.
Read-only use of the map is fine, stepping from zone to zone is a little slow but bearable.
But making a new map is pretty unpleasant. I'm to the point where I'll have lag of 5-10 seconds upon stepping into a brand new room when I'm mapping. If I'm mapping a dangerous area that I'm unfamiliar with, this can be deadly.
I've found something that seems to help - if I start mapping, then speedwalk even a couple of rooms, then go back to edit mode and continue mapping, this seems to help the performance substantially. At least until the next time I fire up Z-mud. |

It may well be worth splitting your map into zones - I think from something I read you can then load on a per-zone basis and it should probably be faster.
Not sure though |

This is a known problem in v6.62 and is being fixed in the 6.63 update due out within a week.
