Use the %roomcol function.

Thats works fine..I have created some buttons to colour my existing maps. I plan to update them as i go around e.g. If i find a mob in the room when revisiting i plan to colour it red. Pushing the button will only change the colour of the room in mapping mode not when i'm folowing. Is there a command to change into mapping mode 1st then back to follow. I have looked in the reference list but nothing seems obvious...
Sorry to be a pain.

The problem is not that it isn't in Map Mode, but that the map is locked. You can change this with %maplocked:
#NOOP %maplocked(0)
to unlock it and:
#NOOP %maplocked(1)
to lock it again. Also, just in case anyone wants to know, it is also possible to change to Map Mode and Follow Mode by code:
#MENU {Map|File|Map Creation Mode}
for Map Mode and:
#MENU {Map|File|Follow Mode}
for Follow Mode.
