6.62, Win98/SE, automapper crashes |
I'm running Win 98/SE and get pretty consistent hanging (see below for details on what that means). I've checked for new drivers for my NIC and there aren't any. I have all of the critical updates for my Win98/SE system already. My display drivers are up to date.
I _had_ been on 6.4, upgraded to 6.61 and now 6.62. Seems to blow up on activities related to mapping (but then, I always have the mapper on). If I turn the automapper off, it doesn't blow up.
I have a largish map, in perhaps thirty zones, with (in some cases) a hundred locations or so in a zone. Nothing too complicated with connections, but some alternate commands, etc.
When I say 'blow up' I mean that zmud no longer responds, and the system says zMUD is no longer responding. I use a process explorer and see that zMUD is using 95-97% cpu.
I have followed the recommendations to rename the old settings file and then import them. Didn't seem to help.
This is a 3COM Faster Etherlink XL 10/100Mb TX Ethernet NIC (3C905-TX) running on a dell optiplex GXa 400 MTbr EM+.
Searches for a new driver indicate that this is the latest. It's a pretty stable nic, as you doubtless know. The system was running pretty well, mapping and all, for some time on 6.4.
I'd like to be able to get back to 6.4, but I'm afraid I can't, mainly because I've upgraded twice now - once to 6.61 and now to 6.62 - so I suppose the 'backup' files (I selected YES to the option to save backup files) the backup files are now of 6.61.
The one and only mud I am currently connecting to is Achaea.
Anyway, I'd be very happy to see what else you may suggest.
Cheers,
Jay |
