variables

Theoretically simple desire:
I use several macro keys for attack spells and would like to use a variable to target them. I use '#var target prospero' and my macro key would have 'fireball @target'.
Unfortunately it sends "fireball @target" to the mud instead of "fireball prospero". Parsing is turned on, and yes, I double checked that my variable char is '@' and enabled. I'm running 6.15 on Win98.
I know I can set the macro to use aliases which could all be changed with a multi-state button but changing a single variable seems so much more desirable to me.
Any suggestions folks?

Hrmmm... This one kinda stumps me...

Are you perhaps not using an alias on the macro? If yes, then create an alias that uses the variable in it, and have the macro execute the alias...

If you ARE already using an alias on the macro, try writing the script for the macro itself.

I don't use macros, so I never experience macro problems... another idea is replacing the macro with a zMUD button.

I go by many names under the skies. I am known to some as Phobos, to others as simply Fear. To some I am Death, to others I am the Reaper.

Thanks. Very embarrassing. I was trying to test it out on the command line which wasn't working but as soon as I put it in the macro it worked. Preferences wasn't set to expand variables from the command line.
