Trouble Connecting to Gemstone IV

I seem to be having difficulty in connecting to Gemstone IV using Zmud. I'm using the icon which came with Zmud 7.03, and at first it connects fine. Takes my pword and asks which char I want to use. Then it comes up with a dialog box saying that the DNS is not recognized and asks me to use an IP addy instead. I provide the IP, but it's still unable to connect. I've compared the information I'm using with other successful Zmudders in Gemstone and it's identical:

host: EACCESS.PLAY.NET|GS4
Port: 7900
IP : 209.16.218.1

Anyone have ideas/suggestions? I've also posted on the GS4 website.

Go into your Network Control panel and make sure your DNS server information is correct. It's not the EACCESS.PLAY.NET server that is having trouble (that is the login server that it is connecting too successfully to ask for your login info). The problem is that the hostname being sent my Simutronics to point to the Gemstone IV server isn't able to be converted to an IP address on your system for some reason using the DNS server configuration that you have.

Anyway, it's not the IP address of EACCESS.PLAY.NET you should be entering, it's the IP address of the actual Gemstone IV server, which I'm afraid I don't know. But you might be able to find this on their support site.

You might also try EACCESS.PLAY.NET|GS3. For a while, |GS4 was going to the beta test server (no longer active), while |GS3 was going to the actual Gemstone server.

I don't know if that is still the case, but I'm currently using |GS3 with no problems.

I had the exact problem as the original poster yesterday connecting to Simutronic's Dragonrealms. Strangely, by typing in the correct connection information into a newly created dragonrealms character, I am now able to connect. The exact same information on the original character still gives me the same problem. This leads me to believe that is not entirely a DNS server problem as Zugg suggested, since obviously at the moment my DNS server is constant between log in attempts by these two characters.

Hehe.. I can tell you how to fix it right now. It's zmud that's the problem.. or rather how zmud gets information about muds through mudconnect. After loading zmud, hit the new button. Scroll down to gemstone, you'll see the host is *EMPTY* and the port is 0 -- obviously a problem. Enter gs3.simutronics.net for the host and 4901 for the port. That I know of neither zuggsoft or gemstone provides this information.. heh.

Well, nevermind.. I spoke too soon. I still think that may be the problem. Except for the login server, I can't find where to change both the host/ip and port and have it showup clicking the gs4 icon..

Ok, I can connect now. Right click on gemstone IV -> edit.. change host to eaccess.play.net|GS3 instead of eaccess.play.net|GS4. Although its called Gemstone IV, simutronics still seems to refer to it as GS3 in some instances.. I dunno whats happening specifically, I do know if you make that change it works.
