Issues with Menus (Smaug 1.4a) |
I recently downloaded 1.4a for windows, and it compiles fine, runs fine, no problems there. I've even added some snippets for housing and such, and it still keeps chugging away. My problem though is the menus; rmenu, mmenu, omenu, cmenu. Basically, when a menu is displayed to my screen, it has the top part of the menu cut off. Here's an example of the rmenu:
|--------' |
|a]Name: |
|The Parlour of the Immortals |
|b]Description: |
|You are lounging in a quiet cosy parlour, warmed by a gentle magical f... |
| |
:---------------------+-----------------------------------------------------'
The funny thing is, it seems to show up fine in telnet, which points to the problem being somewhere in Zmud
Any ideas? |

Is that what it should look like, or the zMUD version? Show both please.
Are you using any triggers that gag lines? Is your password shown there maybe?

Heh, sorry. That's the Zmud version. It's missing a couple of lines at top:
.---------.--[rmenu page a]-------[ ]-----------------------------.
||[1]TEXT| |
|--------' |
|a]Name: |
| |
|b]Description: |
| |
| |
:---------------------+-----------------------------------------------------'
I have no gag lines, triggers, or anything else turned on that's not included in the basic configuration for a new connection.
I did, however, in an attempt to fix it, disable a bunch of special characters. This has resulted in no change. |

Turning off special characters doesnt have any effect on how the text from the mud is shown..
Try turning off the trigger-parser by clicking on the pistol-button on the status bar? (bottom right) ..
I can't think of any other reason at the moment..

The problem you're having is that although Zmud claims to be VT100 compliant, it is in fact not. The codes used by Smaug to make those menus work are VT100 codes. Zmud fails to process these properly even in the most recent of recent versions. They work just fine in standard telnet as you obviously noticed, but I know of very few people who build or mud using just telnet :)
The overwhelming use of clients that don't properly support VT100 has led to the erroneous conclusion that the bug lies within the Smaug code. Most Smaug mud operators I know of have removed those menus for other unrelated reasons since they are extremely difficult to maintain when you need to modify them. |

sotmud.net:23 has a vt100 interface, zmud indeed has some issues with certain vt100 codes, but I believe zugg is working on that.
