long speedwalks and disconnects

I find that I am frequently disconnected from my mud during lengthy speedwalks (e.g. .4s2e3s2w4sw3sw4s2w3sen2e2s2w2se4s10w4nw2ne2nw4n6w3n2w4n). I input the path, then the cpu load goes way up, then it starts walking only after it has sent the entire path. It seems to walk most of the way then just disconnect unceremoniously. The same paths worked with older versions of zmud, but fail in 6.62. My internet connection is very stable, but quite slow. Perhaps that exasperates the problem.

Try using slow walking. This will require that you either have the region through which you walk mapped, or you establish slow walking triggers.

Yeah, I'm sure slow-walking would work, but I want to speedwalk. I have paths all set up, and I would like to be able to use them.

See if there are newer drivers for your network card.

My network card? I connect to the internet via. dialup modem. My connection is very stable but, like all dialup connections, is slow (~4-500ms pings). I _only_ get disconnected when doing long speedwalks like the one given above, and only in newer versions of zMud.

I use zMud 6.62
winxp (fully patched)
512mb ram
56k modem

You can use your paths with slow-walking by way of the #SLOW command. You can also override the path character by disbaling it in the preferences then creating an #ONIPUT trigger to interpret .path as #SLOW path.

In general I see little to no speed difference between fast and slow walking.

I appreciate all the suggestions for workarounds, but I'd rather get speedwalking to work. Slowwalking is too slow and allows aggro-type creatures to strike with annoying frequency.

Then try drivers for the modem.

If that doesn't work, thent try adjusting the Sendline delay setting in the Preferences.

My drivers and connection are fine.

Where do I change the sendline delay?

OK... that didn't help. I suppose I should also mention that I use the mapper - perhaps it is the parsing for follow-mode that causes the disconnects. Also, during the first part of the speedwalk (while the directions are being sent), the little cpu-meter in my system tray jumps all the way to 100%. I don't remember this happening in prior versions.
