Mapper not following in follow mode |
I've been playing with the mapper again.. gave up for a while because it wouldn't follow when I move in follow mode. I turned off the "Switch to follow mode when speedwalking" option, and that's when it started messing up. Now, it will only follow when in Creation mode, but tends to unexpectedly create new rooms as it goes along. I turned the "Switch to follow mode" option back on, but it didn't do any good. Still have to be in creation mode for it to follow (and since I use slow speedwalking, I can't use speedwalking either). Suggestions?

Try FAST speedwalking mode. It sounds like you play on a mud where the room title/descriptioni changes frequently... the mapper is unable to follow you in SLOW mode because it is looking for an exact match in room title/description. FAST will get around this.

Not the case. I'm playing in Simutronics' DragonRealms. The room names are a constant. If I use FAST mode, I only run into trouble because I'm only allowed a 3 command buffer. That is, if I want to go someplace 10 rooms away, it will send 10 commands, the first 3 (5, if I'm lucky) commands will be registered and executed by the MUD, but the rest will give the response "Sorry, you may only type ahead 2 commands."

Room descriptions, not names, so yes, it may be the case with the day/night shifts that some rooms have in DR.

Alright. The rooms that it's not following through do not change descriptions. In fact, I can make a fresh map, and try to speedwalk it right away, and it won't follow.
Also, Zugg said that the mapper is supposed to be basically flawless on Simu games since it uses the directional gsl codes. Just doesn't seem to be happening. |

What is the exact room? No matter what anyone says, the mapper is fickle.
My basic suggest to everyone using the mapper is set it to activate based on roomname instead of description (read the help Intro to Mapping). In general the are many rooms on a given mud with the same name, and all to often the also have the same description. What your left with is the same room with different exits, so you gain no benefit by having the mapper trigger on the much longer line. Overall the name line changes less often then the first line of the description so you gain by the generality of triggering on the name. Try making the necessary changes and seeing how it works. |
