Are the newest versions (6.16+) of zMUD compatible with Windows XP? I couldn't seem to find any documentation for this. Thanks!

What should give you more trouble in XP is eLicense, rather than zMUD. You must remember to install and run zMUD for the first time using an account with Administrator priviledges. After that, you can use zMUD with a normal user account. However, Zugg is not oficially supporting XP until it is more stable, but normally, if the zMUD runs fine under windows 2000, then it shouldn't present much more trouble under XP.

#2 biggest problem with XP is drivers. Make sure they are all the latest versions if you encounter any problems. You might even do it in advance (having the latest drivers can provide significant speedups in some cases) even if it is a new computer.

You'll need to upgrade. 3.62 is a 16-bit application and XP simply does not run them.

I've noticed that if you do something similiar to ".48e"... it crashes. Could be just on my computer... but anything less is ok.

I've only found one annoying thing with 6.16 and XP. You can't alt-tab to other app windows. I get tired of reaching for my mouse to go to another program...but such is life.

There is a little flakiness on the alt tabbing, but if I try it again, I can do it. It's got something to do with the mapper I think... because it's so often used 'always on top'. You wouldn't think this would cause so much flack, but for some reason in zmud... it just doesn't get along with the shell.

Windows tends to be a bit flakey for the first half dozen updates if you're lucky, or longer if you're not. zMUD and Windows tend to have the odd argument about who gets to go on top, especially in XP. I've changed windows and zMUD is happily sitting in the foreground with whatever I'm working on in the background but active.

Simple rule of thumb is that new versions of windows never really work properly until the next version has come out. ME was very flakey until XP arrived, because enough time had passed for patches.

As far as drivers go with XP, it's pretty much vital that you check for new ones on a regular basis, half the ones they release fix one problem and break another, so you have to stay on top of them. I've had 9 updates for my network card in 6 weeks, which just goes to show that things are far from calming down on the XP update front.

I keep my mapper window docked to other windows at all times, and have no odd issues with alt-tab or anything else in XP *shrug*. Drivers are always a good place to start.

Noticably, I have run zMUD on my friends pc before with windows XP. Oddly it actually seemed to run better than it does on my win98-SE.. but such is life I guess. I like XP now (allthough I hated it at first). Can't wait to get it on my pc.

If your upgrading your operating system and not your hardware go with Win2000. XP doesn't support a lot of the old hardware and you might have problems finding drivers. If your getting a band new system you should be ok with XP. For compatibility I am going to stick with Win2000. At least more of my memory goes towards my programs then towards my operating system.
