Problem when upgrading to Zmud 6.26a

Upon upgrading to Zmud 6.26a, I can no longer connect to any MUD. I can connect through zmud to any site on port 23 like a standard telnet, but I can no longer connect to realms of depair or any other site. The version is fully registered. In an attempt to fix this I uninstalled the version, yet I can no longer connect even if I am on version 6.16. I then attempt a removal of Zmud entirely from my system, and then a reinstall of zmud from scatch this also does not fix my problem. I am not using a firewall or anything that should cause a problem. The mud is currently up as I can access it through telnet. Any suggestions?

Why do you taunt me with your darkness?
Your evil is stinking up our streets!
The END is near, the end if NEAR!

You should probably post this on the Beta Forum, as there is another person with the exact same problem.

i've had a similar problem, and i'd go look in the beta form, but the fact is that i can't, cause you have to be approved to enter it, but you dont have to be , to get the beta version.

I beg to differ. I just registered, because I'm having a problem with upgrading, and I don't have access to the Beta forum. So I'll complain here. Is it to much to ask that we NOT break compatability within minor revisions, at least? My scripts worked in 6.18, broke with 6.24, and now are broken AGAIN with 6.26.

Ok, apparently it is time for the Beta Rant© once more.

First, yes, you must register to use the Beta Forum. And, no, it is not a difficult process. You just need to click on the Beta Forum Application link in the All Forums page, fill out the necessary information, and accept the terms and conditions. You will be granted access to the Beta Forum and you can post there. If for some reason you still cannot post there, try logging out and the logging back in. If it still doesn't work, support@zuggsoft.com and they may be able to help you.

Second, yes, the place to put questions, bug reports, and problems about beta versions is the Beta Forum, not the General Forum. No one prevents you from putting it in the General Forum but either this will happen, or the topic will get locked, or your questions may go unanswered. If you post in the Beta forum and no one gives a satisfactory answer by the time Zugg reads it, your are almost 100% guaranteed that you will get and answer from Zugg, the creator of zMUD, the person that knows it better that anybody else, the one and only that can fix bugs in zMUD.

Finally, yes, it is too much to ask that compatibility is not broken with minor revisions. It is a whole lot to ask when you are not talking about Public versions. With beta versions this is not always possible. However, if you do not want compatibility to possibly break when upgrading to a beta version, there is one simple solution: do not use beta versions. "Oh, but I want to have the new feautures and cool additions before anyone else gets to see it in the public version." Of course you do, everyone likes that. In this case, you must make a choice, do you want cool new feautures, or the security of knowing that nothing should go wrong with zMUD and that you have your right to complain if it happens otherwise? If you choose the cool new feautures, then you must prepare yourself for the possible occurance of data loss, script incompatibility, system instability, your computer catching fire, you house being blown up, and you getting killed (ok, maybe not the last three .)

Rant finished.
