Using Zmud 5.55 -- License issue |
I bought a license for zmud 5.55 back in the year 2000. A couple years later I had a harddrive crash, and no longer had access to my old email account.. I didn't know what to do so I downloaded a crack.. it worked great for a few years, then I stopped playing muds.
Recently an old mud was revived, I loaded my trusty zmud 5.55 to play with my old scripts, only to discover that the crack no longer works.
I emailed zuggsoft, and they were able to verify my identity and update the email address they had on file for me. I went through the motions of retreiving my product license, but it doesn't work on zmud 5.55
The tech support person said that they no longer support zmud 5.55 and that the new licensing they use won't work on zmud 5.55.
I like zmud 5.55, it runs quick, I know my scripts of old timey days works well in zmud 5.55, and it doesn't slow down the rest of my computer; as such I would like to use zmud 5.55. The tech support person suggested I talk to someone in the forums who is running zmud 5.55 and ask them how they are doing it.
If anyone can help that would be great.
Thanks,

Nobody can help, unless they're feeling generous and willing to gift you a license (err, am I imagining this or is it an actual zuggstore feature?)

no one can "gift" me a license.. I've already paid for one and can't "gift" it to myself even.. because I guess there's no such thing as a license for 5.55 anymore.
If I can't continue to use the product that I paid for because licenses don't exist for it anymore, maybe Zugg could make 5.55 public domain such that it wouldn't ask for a license? I paid for one and still can't use it. I was told I can upgrade and use the newer version, but I like the version I have. It is light weight and runs reliably. I also know that my scripts run well on 5.55.. I tried a trial of a newer version and was going to have to go over all of my scripts.. which is alot of work considering I have parts of my script that write other parts of my script, like my autokiller, zone runner, autodonater, autolooter, autospellcaster, bot script, etc.. I wrote all my own.. but sometimes I use commands or buttons and prompts to do things like add equipment or mobs to my autokiller.. so I can click a button, and give it a mob name, mob description, mob difficulty level, and mob zone.. then when it makes the trigger, it checks to see my autokill settings to see if it should attack that mob.
It's probably the case that I can use a newer version of zmud and have an awesome database and simplify my scripts.. but I'm done writing scripts.. I just want to play this mud that was recently revived.. I want to play using my old scripts :)
It did the strangest thing today, it was at "You can use ZMud 15 more times" .. and it went back to "29 more times" .. after I entered the license that was emailed to me, that doesn't work with the older zmud.
Anyway, thanks for trying to help.

The license you can get for the store works for zMUD 7.21, why not just try it. One it's more feature rich, generally more stable and should not have that much more system requirements than the 5.55 version.

If I remember it correctly 5.55 used to be horribly buggy compared to 7.21. It is definitely worth it to try the new version. |

I don't recommend it and I've no idea if it comes with a virus, trojan or other malware, but you could always look on a site like keygen.us and try out the zmud 5.55 loader that someone has put up there.
Personally I'd just use 7.21, I always found it had far fewer problems than 5.x. |

7.21 is definitely the way to go. And its one of those times where I can say with confidence that very likely its hands down better for
botting-related scripts than some really old version (though I've never used 5.55 so I don't know with utmost certainty).
However, if you're afraid beforehand if your scripts would work with 7.21, maybe post few of them here and let people go through them
and if needed, fix them etc to work 100% in ZMud 7.21?
If you don't want to post them publicly, you can always PM someone...

It's extremely unlikely that any script made for v5.55 wouldn't work with 7.21!

Well, this has already been answered, but I thought I'd add the "official" response. v5.55 used an old copy protection system that no longer exists. So there is no way to send you a license key for that. You *must* upgrade to v7.21, which uses our own copy protection system that we are in full control over. Since we are in full control over this new system, you won't ever have to worry about not being able to get your license key in the future. As you already discovered, it's easy to log into our web site and retrieve your license key for 7.21. So you don't even need to contact us if you lose it again in the future (or reinstall Windows, etc).
There is absolutely no reason to keep using v5.55. The 7.21 version is faster than 5.55, fixes hundreds of bugs, and adds useful features (such as spell checking). All of your scripts from 5.55 will work on 7.21, along with your maps, etc. Just install 7.21 into the same directory that you had 5.55 and you will be all set. |

Or you could take that huge step and buy CMUD ;)
Actually surprised Zugg left that out. CMUD is worth it, I just can't afford it right now. |

I have used most versions of zmud, i have gone out of my way to find 5.55 on numerous occasions as i could not stand any of the other versions i have tried, until 7.21. It looks, feels and works much the same as 5.55 did and with the exception of getting used to using the keyboard and not the mouse to access cap windows i have no complaints. And even in that now that im used to it is better. I do have the occasional problem with it locking up and not allowing some functions to work, if i wait they work again, or i just restart it.
As far as Cmud goes, i havent heard many good things about it. No offense Zugg, i love your work and thank you for it, but even microsoft had Vista...... |

You hear a lot of bad things about CMud because we had 2 years and change of a really, really horrible version. We're past that (the latest version has only been out for 5 months), so you really should start investigating why folk think so poorly of the product. If they haven't used anything beyond 2.37, you can openly call them morons for basing their opinions on some really incorrect and outdated information.
