How do I remove the windows that pop out?

I've been trying everything I can to remove the slide out windows that are on the right side of the screen. Even if my mouse passes over one, doesn't even stop to hover, it pops out the screen and adds about 10 seconds to lag to my screen. It's a real pain because I keep my windows bar on the right edge of the screen, and I cannot move my mouse to open another window without passing one of these tabs.

I was reading through the forums, and one person seems to have the same problem, but they got the solution of hover over the tab, and press the 'x' that appears, but i do not see an x, only a down facing triangle and the push pin icon for auto hide or stick.

It's almost debilitating when I'm playing because of the lag it causes.

I took a quick screen shot of this so you can see what my problem is in case my verbose rantings have not explained my problem.

(Oh i hope this works, i've never tried to put a picture into a forum before.)

Thank you to anyone who has the time to respond with a solution.

If your layout is locked, there won't be a cross there. Unlock it with the option under the layout menu, then use the cross to close the windows and lock the layout again.

Ok, one step in the right direction... The 'x' is there now, but clicking it does nothing.

Frustrated

Pin the window out first, then click the X.
