Question of Choice? CMUD w/ zMapper or CMUD Pro. |
I have both CMUD, CMUD Pro, and zMapper (and I'm pretty darned sure I'll get cMapper as well).
So my question is should I be using CMUD or CMUD Pro? Since I already get the zMapper plug-in I think the only other big difference between CMUD and CMUD Pro is SSH right now.
Just curious if there was any reason to be swayed one way or another. I don't use SSH for any reason right now, but that could change in the future. |

I was going to respond in the obvious, but you've already covered that. I use Pro exclusively at the moment because I have about 30 various SSH servers I need to connect to at any given time, and I still love mudding. I like having one program for all that. Aside from that though, I couldn't tell you a good reason myself.

If you already have zMapper/cMapper and you don't need SSH, then there isn't any reason for you to have CMUDPro, except that it provides a bit more monetary support for Zuggsoft. But since you already have both, it doesn't matter at all which one you run. CMUD and CMUDPro use the exact same code except that regular CMUD doesn't have the SSH code (it's conditionally compiled out), and CMUDPro contains additional code to enable the zMapper plugin stuff. The actual code for MUDding, scripts, etc is identical.

Does this mean that CMUDStandard calls zMapper via COM or something to achieve the same result? If so, wouldn't it be marginally faster using CMUDPro if you are using the extended map COM features? Perhaps an irrelevant amount... |

No; I believe that CMUD detects if you have zMapper installed an enables the zMapper plugin. CMUDPro does it automatically.

Right. The zMapper plugin code is actually compiled into CMUD. So it's just a matter of how it detects the zMapper license, or not, to enable this code. When I originally tried to do this using COM and have CMUD call the zMapper code as a real plugin, it was just too slow for the mapper.
