Saving Zmud |
How or when does zmud save? I always make triggers and aliases and all this new stuff and keep zmud open for awhile, then my computer crashes and it will not save the stuff, sometimes when I even quit zmud manually it doesn't save :(

Use #save command whenever you make changes.

ZMud saves when you use the File|Save or Settings|Save Settings menus, or when you close down ZMud. If your computer/ZMud crashes, it will not properly save upon closing and this can corrupt your settings and other character data (map, database, layout, etc).

I've recently been having a similar problem. If I play 2 chars at one time which share a command file. If i put in an alias/trigger on one char it does not show up on the other. It works for several hours. I quit zmud and came back an hour later and all the new aliases and triggers were gone.
If I hit refresh then save and then relog the other character it seems to keep them. If i forget to refresh then save it does not save them even if i've used them for a while. Totally weird and frustrating. |

I don't think it was ever intended for you to open the same .mud file with more than one character simultaneously. CMUD supports this with shared packages, but zMUD doesn't.
What happens is that when the session's opened, it reads the file into memory. If you open the same file twice, you end up with two instances of the same settings in memory. Any changes you make happen in memory to that specific instance of the settings. The other instance is unaffected. If that second instance, without the changes, writes to the disk last, then all your changes will be lost. For example, if you were to close the other character first then the updated settings would be saved to the disk, but they'd then be overwritten when you close the second character and it saves its unmodified settings. |

Thank you for the explination. In the past I've not had many problems with it, but recently I have.
Today I tried tabbing to the first char logged in, making change there, relogging 2nd char and still nothing. I even exited out of Zmud and logged both chars back in, and all changes were gone again.
I'm assuming that i'll have to make any and all change with only one char on, save those changes, then log in other chars.
I've also noticed that on some rare times, if I log in a second character or even a third, sometimes the first window locks up. The character is still connected, but not activity is sent or recieved via the window. It only happens rarely, but is annoying. I never had the problem before 7.21 that I noticed.
thank you for the info |
