Mapper cannot be started (zMUD 7.21)

Hi all,

due to a mainboard faliure, I obtained a new computer and am reinstalling zMUD. To have easier maintenance (at least IMHO) I have a new partition, where I store the data like the mapper files and such.
I have taken over the old char.dbt and chardb.db. The client starts with my char-list. I adopted the path to the data, started up a character and all highlighting and such works. But as soon as I try to start the mapper, I get "interface not supported". Anyone got an idea what that could be and how to fix it?

PS: Also recreation of the old hierarchy does not fix this problem.

Try moving the files back into the characters zmud folder, i tried something similar with my database files and it wouldnt access my database files outside of the characters own folder inside the zmud folder

ie

d\database\DB\item_database = failed

c\zmud\chacater_name\DB\item_database = worked

despite the files been the same and zmud opening the path up just fine, only the ones inside the zmud folder would actually open for me.

I tried the same thing with a new mud connection, and still the same problem.
I think, there is some bug in the binaries, and I am going to revert to the previous version I was running, where the mapper was working fine.

Hmm, have only a 6.x left, which cannot be licensed anymore :(
So how to find out, which interface is missing.

Did you ever install zMapper?

Did you check zMUD settings files? I suspect what's happening is that zMUD is limiting the files you can access for security purposes. Alternatively there may be a hard coded reference in one on the data files.

You could try creating a new database in the directory you want it, then copy the old one there.

As far as I am aware of, the automapper comes with zMUD, zMapper should not be needed. :(

And as I already stated, creating a new char also has the same problem. Or do you mean a completely new char database?
Could try with a complete blank install.

I uninstalled zMud, deleted the directory, and installed it anew.
Still the same problem.

Only thing I still could try would be searching through the registry for any keys left over after installation. But since I did not change anything in there manually, I doubt that would be a success.
So it looks like a bug.

I think I now know the problem.
For some reasons I had a Serial-Number for my WindowsXP which was from the Tablet-PC pool. I.E. the XP thought of my computer being a Tablet PC. And one of those special features for the Tablet-PC gave rise to that problem. I reinstalled with a normal XP serial number and now it works as expected.
So much for the promise of MS that every program running under XP also runs on Tablet PC.
