Unwanted split screen

I'm looking for a solution to an annoying problem I have encountered with Zmud ever since I changed to an XP system. I usually keep five windows open using tabs at the top. Two of these are logins and three are capture windows.
The problem happens when I click on the first tab... maybe one time in ten, the screen will split horizontally and give me tabs on the bottom half and only half a screen for the window I selected.
Is this something I can fix by using settings? I tried creating a layout but it still happens.
Help?
