zmud auto mapper |
Hi,
I'm fairly new to zmud after just registering and thought that I would try to get to grips with the auto mapper, after a succesfull setup using the config wizard all appears to be ok. Until.... After a very short while the mapper seems to lose its place and starts creating duplicates of rooms/paths that I enter twice.
In short I end up with lots of the same rooms and paths on my map.
Also, sometimes i go in the dir of N and the automapper creates the room to the w or e.
Has anyone seen this problem, and know what I'm doing wrong ? |

Are you attempting to move west, failing, then successfully moving north, but the mapper puts the room to the west? If so, you need to start noting your MUD's movement failure messages and create triggers for them. For example:
#TR {You can't move in that direction.} {#NODIR}
#TR {What? Trying to swim?} {#NODIR}
The #NODIR command tells the mapper to ignore the last direction in it's queue.
Place these triggers in the Map window's Edit->Map Properties->Map Script->Always Active box.
As far as creating redundant rooms is concerned, sometimes MUD rooms are not laid out in a nice neat grid pattern. If this is the case you'll have to manually move them around to make them fit. If you have duplicates, move them on top of one another, and select Merge Rooms in the rooms' right-clik menu.

hmmm dont think i've got that far into it yet, i can do simple walks slowly for example :-
s,s,u,e (into room)
then w,u,u
,d,d,d,n,n
at this point my current location should be where i started, but for some reason (not the same each time) my map has two paths and several duplicate rooms on the map, with two differnet starting points. I'm confused :( any other ideas ? |

After lots of playing around with the mapper settings manually i still cant seem to get the basic functions working :( Really frustrating ! Am I missing the point ?

If I understand correctly, you are going slowly, but keep getting extra rooms on your map? After you enter each new room, do you do anything else apart from going to the next one? Take a look at the queue on the Mapper (In the bottom right corner, it shows which commands its detected) after you enter each room, and see if it is empty, if not, empty it with a double-click.
Does it detect the exits of the rooms you enter correctly? Do you open any doors?
How do you get two different starting points?
*also confused*

And, repeating some of what Troubadour said, you sometimes experience two kinds of problems when walking in circles (example - n,e,s,w):
1. The area itself is not arranged in a nice symetrical pattern and thus the path above won't return you to the room where you started. Manually moving the rooms around should correct this.
2. The mapper, for some reason, may not recognize the final room as being the same as the initial room and draws one on top of the other. Right clicking on top of the duplicate rooms and selecting Merge Rooms should turn the two rooms into one.

Perhaps #LOG that path and show us the mud output with a summary of what the automapper created so we can figure out your issue
