Mapping follows, but follow doesn't? |
Having trouble (auto-)mapping Achaea:
The big problem is that Achaea uses line breaks in a funny way: they put them in every 80 characters or so, to prevent weird line-wrapping issues. Unfortunately, they don't put breaks in the list of things inside the room and the exits line(s). All these things may be spread over multiple lines, or sandwiched together on one line. There is also no room description given moving from room to room (you must explicitly type LOOK to get it).
The automapper creates rooms relatively well, and I can backtrack, and the blue dot (current position) will follow me wherever I go. But when I switch to "Follow" mode, sometimes the blue dot gets stuck, and the direction appears in the queue.
Basically I'm curious to know what the mappers tries to match when it walks from room to room in either mode. Does it try to match the room name or room description or what? |

If your MUD does something like what the one im playing does, the room descriptions can change slightly. To fix this problem in follow mode, go to Edit, Map Properties, Speedwalking and change the setting to fast. It will ignore the output of room descriptions from the MUD and automatically move the dot over to the next room for you. The default setting of the Speedwalking is to check the room descrip in the mapper vs. the room descrip from the mud. If they are the same, it then moves your position on the map. You can see how this could be a prob if the room descrips change.
Contain rather than hurt.
Hurt rather than maim.
Maim rather than kill.
Kill rather than be killed. |
