When I try typing # I get £ instead. All of the other shift keys work. Just having problems with the # sign

Sound like you have it set to a UK keyboard layout instead of american... try hitting: ALT + 3

Not sure how (maybe a win 8 feature? 😀), but somehow my keyboard was reset to English (UK). Changed it back to English (US) and all is back to normal.
