Constant disconnects

Ever since a couple days ago I've been getting disconnects every few minutes from CMUD. I've never had this problem but now it's constant and already got me killed more than once. I'll be doing something normally, then all of a sudden my commands won't work anymore, but I'll still be receiving lines from the MUD. After 20 seconds or so I get the message: "

[Error while reading from Achaea. Maybe something happened to your connection?

(check console for more info)]"

Please help! I can't hunt at the moment for fear of dying.

There usually isn't any way for CMUD itself to cause your connection to get disconnected. CMUD disconnects when the Windows socket library notifies it that the socket connection has been disconnected. This sounds more like an ISP or network issue.

Remember that playing MUDs requires a persistent telnet socket connection. This is different from web browsing where each request for a web page (or image or part of a page) uses a different socket connections. So I have seen some company networks that implement a socket timeout to prevent persistent sockets. This has the effect of allowing web browsing, but blocking stuff like telnet, large file transfers, etc. I have no idea how your network is setup or what control over it you might have, but you might look for any changes that have been made recently to your network config or ISP config. If telnet is allowed by your ISP, you can contact them and ask them why your telnet sessions are being disconnected.

The problem with debugging this kind of issue is that any router on the Internet between your computer and the MUD can disconnect your socket. Makes it hard to determine where the problem is.
