Thanks for nothing Zuggsoft

I have Zmud. I installed Cmud to give it a try. I load my .mud file into Cmud, play around for a while, then I opened Zmud. My settings are gone. Entirely gone.

Basically, when I loaded settings into Cmud, it decided to use those settings the next time I opened Zmud. Which is the STUPIDEST program design, EVER. *EVER*.

That's not Zuggsoft I can assure you. CMUD imports a copy of your old settings it doesn't delete you original ones. The only way it would use the CMUD settings is you had the CMUD files in the same directory as zMUD.

zMUD also has know way of knowing about CMUD since CMUD was developed more or less after zMUD development stopped.

First, calm down. Loading ZMud files into CMud doesn't do anything with regards to writing back to that zmud file. From the perspective of your attempts at CMud, your .mud file still has stuff in it even if CMud ends up exploding across your hard-drive like a digital grenade.

As for your continued efforts with ZMud, your settings MIGHT not be gone. When .mud files get corrupted (they always do, since they are stored as plain text, and this issue is one of the primary reasons CMud was created), sometimes ZMud can't really read them and so it just shows you a blank Settings Editor or if you are lucky it will show only some of your settings. While you won't have anything as convenient as a .txt file, if you open up the .mud file in notepad you can sometimes find enough bits and pieces of your scripts such that you can piece them back together. Just to warn you of the magnitude of the effort involved, however: most people with .mud files that far gone that you have to resort to notepad to save them just accept the loss and start over. No sense in going to all that effort to fix things if you accidentally add something back in that messes things up all over again.

As people have already said, CMUD and zMUD are completely independant. They have different settings and there is nothing that CMUD can do to effect your zMUD settings. You didn't mention what version of Windows you are using or anything like that, but if you post more we might be able to help you find your old zMUD settings.
