Cmud won't open profile windows |
I've been using the cmud 30 day trial for a little while with the intention of buying the license but before I do I have some issues I need to work out.
FWIW I'm running it on Windows 7 64bit.
First of all I'm having a hard time figuring out how the profiles work. I try to just make 1 for each character I play and then one for rolling up new characters. Then after using them for a bit I find that one will contain all the windows and tabs and the others won't work at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it ends up the same way after a while.
Two days ago all my profiles loaded up fine and spawned new windows. Now when I click on them, nothing happens. This seems to keep happening. I'll delete them and recreate them and sometimes they'll start working, sometimes they wont. Am I missing something in the way this works or what? I used to use zmud a lot about 10 years ago, so I'm somewhat used to the way this stuff works but its very confusing and seems to be broken from what I can tell. |

Each session profile is intended to represent one character. So for each character you should (under most scenarios have a different profile). I'm not really sure what you mean by "rolling up new characters"?
If you are launching multiple sessions at once, then things become a little trickier. We would need a clear description of what you are trying to do with that. Remember to make sure you save your layout, and then lock your layout. If you want certain aliases, triggers, etc used across all sessions put them in a new package that can be shared among all sessions. I would strongly recommend rereading the Getting Started section of the documentation. |

When you create a new session icon, try using "Edit Session" and go to the Files/Packages tab and make sure it has a unique primary package file. By default, CMUD names the package file for the name of the MUD you are playing and if you create multiple characters on the same MUD, CMUD might be using the same package name for each session, causing problems like you mentioned.
Btw: To get the correct terminology to help you be understood better on the forums, take a look at the Terminology topic. That will help you understand what a "session" and "package" is. CMUD doesn't use anything called "profile" and that might confuse people on these forums. |

Ok I deleted all my sessions. Then I created 5 sessions. They all connect to the same mud, each one is for a different character and one for rolling up new characters.
Each one has its own package file and layout file. Lets see what happens. |

Ok came home from work today and tried to launch the session for my cleric. Click on it and nothin. It acts like I didn't do anything. No new windows is spawned and nothing happens. The program was working pretty well with no major issues up to this point but now its doing the same thing again.

Bump^
Ok any ideas as to what causes this? I can't be bothered to put a lot of work into setting up sessions and making bots or triggers if they'll just eat themselves periodically. At this rate I'll just have to go back to using zmud instead. I'd rather get the newer product since zmud isn't supported for Win7 and hasn't been updated in half a decade. Any ideas what might be going wrong? |

Highlight the session icon. In the menu on the left, click Edit Session. Check all of the fields in your session, including the location of your session files and package files. Check your folders to see whether the files are actually at those locations.
No one else has reported a problem like this, so it is probably specific to your computer or files. |

While this is totally within the realm of possibility I have no other problems of any kind with any software on my computer. I run a pretty tight ship so if it is specific to my computer its probably still Win7 x64 related or something...
The character's name is Cthon
But yeah everything looks good, the only thing that it could be is "Use layout" is checked and then it says
Filename: Cthon.pkg <- that file exists in the folder it should under my games\cmud\cthon\cthon.pkg
then it says
layout: Cthon\Cthon.xly <- I don't see this file anywhere... for any of my characters, however only Cthon is currently not spawning a window like its supposed to.
I tried un-checking use layout, but the same thing still happens... |

The .xly file is the one which tells Cmud what windows to display for the session, so this is probably the problem. It looks like it should be at:
My Games\CMUD\Cthon\Cthon.xly
If that file isn't there, it could probably cause this kind of problem. But it should automatically create a new .xly file if one doesn't exist. I don't have any ideas off the top of my head why it isn't happening. |

Hrm got another one doing it. Rothgar's profile window no longer opens as of this morning. I've been busy with christmas and haven't done much of anything to the computer in a day or two, it worked last time I tried it, now it doesnt.
