Hi, everyone. This is probably something really basic, but I've got little knowledge of these things, so any help would be very appreciated.

What I'm trying to do is make an alias that puts a specified item in a backpack. The command I'm aiming to produce is "put item backpack" from an alias called "bk" or something. So, when I enter "bk sword", it enters "put sword backpack". I've tried wildcards, but they don't seem to work quite the way I'm trying them.

#ALIAS bk {~put %-1 backpack}

The %-1 will allow you to use multilple word items. I.e. "green sword" or "sword".
The ~ will signify that you are not trying to call a "put" alias. Just in case you ever wanted to create one.

I actually spent some time looking through the documentation for this, is there someplace where I can read about topics of this kind?

also you can search the forum for pattern matching, theres guaps or variations and usage syntax available

and if all else fails, the Guru's are always around to assist

Great, thanks again.

I'm actually really interested in learning how to do this properly and getting the most out of CMUD, so I've started learning 1 command and 1 function every day since I got cMUD a few days ago. It'll take a while, but I'll master it sooner or later. I've got so many ideas for big projects, I just really need to get my skills to a workable level.

good approach. One thing I noticed when doing that myself, however, is that I had a TON of big ideas and whenever I managed to go back to them I really didn't remember any of it. May want to keep a notebook of idea outlines. That way, as new things occur to you you can add them to the outline.
