[3.12] Mapper Configuration Bug

hey all,
Still playing with the mapper and trying to get it to work consistently and I noticed this in the script
debugger when trying to reconfigure the mapper:

0.1666 | a healer.m |It's night but you can still see.
0.0021 | f healer.m | Pattern: It's night but you can still see.

0.0004 | f healer.m | Pattern: ^\>\s*$
0.0004 | c healer.m | exec : Pattern "^\>\s*$" : #tag prompt

Notice the extra: there are seven obvious ???

The mud looks like this when I do walk:

HX^?^^^^^^^ Lightly rolling hills surround you, giving you an
H^^^^XH^^^^ excellent view of the surrounding terrain. The air
hHHhh@hHHHH here is a bit nippy, being slightly cooler due to the
hhhhffhhhhh elevation. Repeated heavy rainstorms have worn the
ffffffffbbh stone that makes up the hills down, making them
extremely smooth. Dirt and silt piled up from run-off
from higher mountains provides many of the lower lying
parts of the hills with an extrordinary variety of
plant life.

There are seven obvious exits: north, northeast, west, east, southwest, south and southeast.

Where is the extra coming from and is that what is screwing up the mapper which I suspect?
