Mapper and Starting Level/Zone

I have a map for an area that whenever I double click the map it ALWAYS starts on Level -15, and I have to go up 10 levels before I even hit a room.
There's several areas that that happens to, but usually just within 2 levels.

Also, whenever I open the map it always opens at the same area no matter WHERE i left it when i closed zmud down.
I could be in Underdark, and it will always open at the Chessboard.
This is a new thing since I started using someone elses maps. I don't use thier ini or config files, JUST the map.
Not sure why it should work differently if I haven't changed the config files (no i no longer have the old ones Embarassed )

I am having a similar problem, when I click anywhere on my map in any zone that isn't a room the map zips to the bottom right corner on level 0. This makes it impossible to drag a box around the multiple rooms to move/edit them. Is there a setting to change this behavior?

I never heard that one LordFett, so can't help ya there.

I just don't get why if my INI and ZFG files are the same, why a different map file would screw it up.

Movement like this usually indicates a bad room/link somewhere. There's no good way to visually tell which one it is, and I'm not sure there's any good way to tell if you were to go in with Access or some other manager UI and look yourself. At the very least, your brain would melt from looking at all the numbers. The only way, as far as I know, to fix this is to run through your map and watching carefully what happens, then trying to isolate the problem area so you can delete it and remap.

Maybe try compacting, closing the mapper, then running a reconfigure when you reopen it?

Not sure what this has to do with being in UnderDark, closing Zmud, starting Zmud, opening the map and having the map open in chessboard and no Dot to indicate location anywhere.
I'm just using underdark as an example. I can be anywhere and this happens all the time.
I'm not walking around and suddenly i'm dislocated.
I shut down, start up and i'm screwed.

Are you closing down cleanly? or do you have to kill it?

I have had issues like this when i had to shut down zMUD/CMUD unexpectedly (reboot when still on, power failure, task manager, etc), but it seems to remember with a clean exit.

Sounds like your 'Start Location'

You say you have to open the mapper when you reconnect, meaning it should start you in your Start Location, if one isn't set, it won't place you in a room, but rather your (I believe) first area.

Possible solutions:

1) Change your start location to a valid room.
In the mapper, Actions / Set Start Location

2) Leave the mapper open when you quit zMUD
That should technically keep you in the same room. Closing and re-opening the mapper resets where you were/are at times.

3) Use the #FIND command upon connecting.
If all else fails, this should find your location on the map.

1) Already done.

2) Map is docked. Was docked with the old one as well. Tho, gives me the idea that I'll UNdock it, set the start location, REdock it and see what happens. (Failed) I unlocked layout, closed map, opened map, deleted the zone that i nearly 95% of the time log off in, which only has one room (my manor), created the zone again, put in my room again, relinked the down exit to recall, set my manor room as the Start Location, closed map, opened map, and am in Chessboard with no blue dot, type home (portal alias), arrive in my manor, close map again, open again, back in chess board, say screw it, redock the map, save the layout and give the hell up
Stupid question about start location tho...WHAT is the point of it if whenever you open the map you can be in a totally different room and start there....never made sense to me what so ever.
BTW, not sure HOW you can keep the mapper open when you close zmud.....i'm not talking about that one that i have to pay extra for...i'm talking about the one that comes WITH zmud....

3) #FIND is useless to me. The database I use don't have room descs. with descs the size of the map is nearly 40megs. without it's under 20megs. I need to be able to transfer the file via email at times and rarred up 40 megs still takes a MUCH longer time than the 2megs that the less than 20meg file becomes. Either way, wasn't an issue with the old one.

I've tested, and this only seems to happen with SOME areas. I tested 10 areas. and in 7 of them when i closed zmud and reopened it, it didn't show my location, but in the other 3 it had me still in the same room i'd left it in. *boggle* Shocked

BTW, not that it might matter since it happens with some areas and not others, but obviously happens even with newly created areas, Chessboard is the 1st zone listed. It's Zone 3.
Next to try, delete my area/room, create a new zone, close map, open it in access, renumber the new zone to 1, save, open map, create room, close map, open map and cross my fingers. (Slight failure) well, it opens up into my manor zone/room. no blue dot, so i'll just add it when ever I open the map. Annoying, but heck of a lot better than needing to scroll thru the entries to my zone, and then adding the dot. wish i knew what the heck is the problem.
