v2.09 Stable? Almost Public Release?

I hate to jinx it, but I really think that 2.09 is very stable now. I had it running for over 50 hours straight with no hangs or crashes, and I played for another 10 hours over the past couple of nights.

Thanks to Vijilante's excellent bug reports (and really, everyone else has been providing excellent bug reports too), I have fixed several other major issues in 2.09.

As I mentioned in another thread, prior versions could mess up your settings if you moved a class to a different window/module. This was pretty bad. In addition, when importing your *.MUD files, the Preferences would often get written to the wrong package file. You might want to make sure that you have gotten fresh copies of the English Directions and English Keypad packages in case your preferences got messed up.

The 2.09 version should perform a consistency check of your settings and should automatically fix any problem with moved classes. So you shouldn't need to re-import your zMUD files, although feel free to try importing them to make sure it's working smoothly.

Please perform as much Beta Testing over the weekend and next week as you possibly can. I'm thinking that this is getting *very* close to Public Release status now.

The last time I posted about that, everyone said that it needed more testing and stability. Well, I listened to your advice. There has been more live MUD testing of the past few versions than ever before (now that I'm playing MUDs again myself). And while there are *always* more bugs to be fixed, I think this 2.09 version works even better than the 1.34 public version, and I think most of the serious problems related to threads are also fixed.

So, please test this version. PLEASE POST YOUR BUG REPORTS TO A SEPARATE TOPIC! Do not just fill this topic with problem reports. If you want something fixed, you MUST create your own post about it (or send it via Send Feedback or a crash dump).

I'd also like to hear from people if it *is* working smoothly. Often I only hear about problems, but since I'm getting close to a public release, I'd really like to hear opinions from everyone if it's working better now.

Good luck with your testing!

P.S. I hope you also like the surprise new features in the Class edit panel in the settings editor Cool

Zugg, I've not been able to use the 2.0 versions until now. 2.09 seems to be working very well.

Thank you for all your hard work!

I was getting some really crazy problems - settings not saving (create them, restart CMUD, they're gone) and all sorts and they were sending me barmy because they're supposed to be fixed. Then I realised that I hadn't updated my laptop since 2.06 Embarassed Let's hope I have more luck with 2.09.

Woohoo. Zugg, FYI, this also fixes the weird bug with dual monitors where CMud was overlaying the second monitor when maximized. Further, it feels much more clean and smooth. I have to say, those changes you made yesterday with the theming system really improved my outright perception of it before I've even done anything else (sorry if that seems silly). Very nice!

It runs smooth for me starting from 2.06 even with all those bugs in it. Really better than 2.03 I started from. Smile

It does work quite well. I've been using CMUD 2.0x as my primary client for several versions now and it works like a charm. Between that and real life becoming hectic, I guess it's I haven't been posting bug reports as much.

2.09 looks much better to me then all previous versions. Those highly irritating bugs with the visual items made a huge difference. Having them fixed doesn't just make things look better it makes this version much easier to work with.

I have been bouncing around with my files for a while hunting down other polish type things and haven't found a single crash yet. So basic stability seems vastly improved as well. The closest I have gotten to a crash with all that playing is where CMud refused to quit properly, which I didn't give as a seperate bug report since I really can't even guess what is locking it there.

This version is definitely so close to public release status that it is like splitting hairs to find the faults.

Thanks for the comments. And thanks for all of the bug testing over the weekend. It will take me a while to respond to everything, but I'm glad to see that we are back to more minor issues and that CMUD v2.09 is useable now. I'll try to fix as many of the reported problems as I can, and hopefully I can do a RC1 (pre-Public release candidate) this Friday.
