zMUD Mapper & MDAC |
Hi All,
I have an issue with zMUD when I click on the Mapper icon on the toolbar. It pops up a little window 'Error initialising database engine'. There is a link to follow. I follow. I download the MDAC checker and (after looking at some of the other forum posts) check for any mismatches. None. 'The specified module could not be found' pops up in another box just after I close the first database engine error window.
I am running on a Windows XP laptop with service pack 2 installed. I have 'MDAC 2.8 SP1 on Windows XP SP2' according to the MDAC checker. All looks fine.
I downloaded the MDAC and Jet patches from 'http://www.zuggsoft.com/data/#Windows%20XP%20Installation' for XP, right at the very bottom. Neither of these installed as the messages claimed that 2.8 RTM was not needed and/or the installed version of Windows already has these components installed.
I have rebooted a couple of times but there doesn't seem to be anything unusual going on. I checked with the component check after each reboot. No change.
Anyone have any thoughts? |

It is possible to goose your MDAC installation on Windows XP! I once uninstalled a program that asked me about some shared files I think they ended .tlb and I just assumed they wouldn't be needed and had been part of the programs installation. Later I found out that I could no longer make connections to databases and realised what had happened. I used the MDAC checker and it didn't really show anything wrong, I tried the MDAC installation and it quit saying the product was already on. At that point I got a little worried thinking I'd have to reinstall XP but decided to do a quick search about reinstalling MDAC on XP. It turns out you have to use the extract command on the MDAC exe file and then one of the .inf files can be right clicked and you choose install. You get asked a bunch of questions about where to find some files but as long as you have your original XP disk and or point to various files extracted from the MDAC installer and or point to the existing files on your HD you can successfully reinstall MDAC. Do a search and you'll find a proper walk through for the process.
