[1.18] Vista - Password boxes show passwords |
I'm toying with Windows Vista for a day or two, so I thought I'd try out CMUD and see what happens. Well, I found an issue or two with the dialog controls. The biggest problem is that when I type in a password where it would normally show "*******" I'm getting the actual password displayed instead of the asterisks. A minor problem I noticed is the sizing of the dialogs and buttons, where the buttons don't quite fit or the text on them doesn't fit and gets wrapped (like the "No, I do NOT accept these terms" button).
I know you don't have Vista to play with yet, but just thought I'd give you a head start on thinking about these items. |

Same here.
I also noticed that the windows are in the basic mode rather than aero. I know, I know :), it's hardly significant, but just thought I'd add it to the list. |

Sigh. Not something I can fix anytime soon. In my opinion, it's something Microsoft needs to fix in Vista. Apparently they have changed their API handling of text fields and are echoing characters before they can be changed. The edit box control I'm using is from Developer Express and I'll have to look to see specifically how they are handling the echo in password fields. But it means Microsoft made a change in their API that is causing compatibility issues, and they'll likely need to fix that for Vista to work well with other software too.
As far as the sizing of buttons/dialogs...what font DPI setting are you using? CMUD is only tested for the WinXP default of 96 DPI. Maybe Vista changes this so that they can use bigger text to go along with their bigger icons so that we all think we need to buy a bigger monitor. (sorry, but I just hate this trend towards making everything bigger. Maybe the Microsoft programmers are getting older and can't read their screens anymore). |

When you get yourself one of these: http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/2407wfp?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs
You will initially go 'zOMG that's massive'. Then after about a week you will start to say 'zOMG my 17" monitor at work is painfully small, I need to buy glasses'.
Of course I use regular size fonts even on the 24" of wholesome widescreeny goodness and it feels appropriately sized.
Now I gotta convince my boss I need a 24" monitor for work too... |
