zmud 7.13 and the LicCtrl service |
Why, in 7.13, did you feel the need to make the LicCtrl service be set to automatic startup regardless of whether or not I want it to be manual. I personally liked not having to change it back everytime I close zmud for the day.

Because many zMUD users don't even know what a service is or how to start one (which is why dealing with the service when it gets stopped is our number one support question). The LicCtl doesn't do anything when it's just sitting in the background. It uses *very few* resources on your computer and it only activated when you launch zMUD (or any other program protected by eLicense). Thus, it does no harm to autostart it and saved a *ton* of time in support calls and emails if it didn't autostart.
Try supporting >70,000 users...I have to do everything in my power to reduce support problems or else I'd never have a spare second left to actually program.
I don't know why eLicense un-sets the "manual" setting the next time it runs. My guess is that eLicense does a fresh install of the service when it runs just to be sure it's not being tampered with. But it's not anything I have any control over so you'd need to ask the eLicense people about it. |
