zMUD isn't starting... |
The other night I was using zMUD at a time when my computer froze up and I needed to reboot it. Since then, whenever I try to start, I get an error window that says:
Sorry, could not get a license at this time.
Please try running this program later.

Does anyone know what this is and how I can fix it? I've tried reinstalling the program once already.
zMUD version 6.67 (Beta) with Windows ME. |

You can also find the answer to this question in the eLicense faq.
Just to save you the trouble...
The pertinent text from the faq is:
You need to first contact eLicense at support@elicense.com and ask them to send you their diagnostic program to fix a code 23 error. Then, run the program they sent you to clear the error. |

Ah-hah, okay, thanks. I hadn't realized that the '23' was an error number.

Just so you know, your not alone. The same thing just happened to me. I also have the same configuration [6.67] on an ME machine. I just e-mailed them as well.

What is the time lenght for the program to be sent to you? You can't download this program to fix code 23 from anywhere else? Why isn't it available on the Zmud download page?

The time length will be however long it takes eLicense support to read and respond to your email. That probably varies depending on how much email they receive and what time of day/week you send your email.
No, I'm not aware of anyplace other than eLicense support to obtain this program. It's a proprietary diagnostic program. It's not available on the zMUD download page because it isn't a Zuggsoft product. |

When I had the Code 23 Error occur last Friday, I instantly sent e-mail to eLicence regarding the matter. In the period of waiting, of course, I have tried other remedies, but to no avail.
Now, it is Wednesday, and having no response as of yet, I was just curious as to whether any of the others with this error who had also sent to eLicence for the programme which may help us have had any word since then. |

If anyone has received the program from elicense that corrects the problem, please send me an e-mail at lvlorph@yahoo.com

Many people have received the program. You can too. A polite email to eLicense should be all it takes if you are experiencing error 23. Referencing the sticky topic here might be helpful.

Btw, just so people are aware...from what I have learned about the code 23 issue, it is usually caused by older versions of Windows crashing or shutting off the computer without a proper Windows Shutdown.
So, some solutions to the code 23 issue are:
1) Upgrade to Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Code 23 problems do not occur on these versions of Windows.
2) Be sure to always properly shutdown Windows. This will help avoid data corruption on your computer. You are getting code 23 because your system registry is getting corrupted. And if that's effecting eLicense, it might be effecting the overall stability of your computer.
Finally, you are not allowed to send the diagnostic program to another user, nor am I allowed to post it myself or give it out. If people start abusing this and start giving the diagnostic program to other people, than all that's going to do is cause eLicense to stop giving it out and then you'll be stuck without a working zMUD system. So don't try to get around it...just wait for eLicense to respond. It can take them several business days to respond to emails. |
