Lines without line feeds |
In Gemstone, I'm having a problem with lines not always being preceded with line feeds, which means that I get text occasionally appearing on the same line as my prompt, e.g.,
>
Joe just arrived.
>
Joe smiles.
> Joe gestures.
Joe is surrounded by a white light.
>
The problem, of course, is that this means that I can't use ^ reliably in trigger patterns, since I won't know if the text will actually start at the beginning of the line.
Has anyone else run into this problem, and is there a way to fix it? |

Yes, this is something very common in all MUDs. When a MUD displays a prompt, it doesn't send a newline so whatever you type appears right next to the prompt. If however, the MUD receives more than one command at a time that produce a prompt, the first prompt appears correcty, but the second prompt gets displayed followed by the output of the second command.
The best thing you can do is to include a newline in your prompt sequence if the MUD allows it. Otherwise, you could probably use a trigger to catch the instance when the prompt is followed by some other characters and use #SUB to reformat it. |
