Weird zMUD error |
I'm getting the following error occasionally when I'm playing.
Access violation at addresss 004C43A4 in module 'Zmud.exe'. Read of address 0000000C.
Any idea what it is? I know my settings aren't doing it, because I can play for hours, or even days sometimes without the error. The error dialogue pops up on every occurence of my prompt. I've tried restarting zMUD and restarting my computer. Also, disabling parsing, triggers, and everything doesn't fix the problem. I'm completely stumped here.
Thanks for your help in advance. |

I ran into a similar problem, where the culprit was Zmud running out of memory.
This could occur in at least one of two ways: A faulty process taking up 99% of system resources, leaving nothing for Zmud (the culprit in my case was vsmon.exe, a component of my firewall); or a problem in one of your Zmud settings (e.g., a trigger that creates an infinite loop) that causes Zmud to require more memory than you have. |

Do you use the mapper? Are you usually in 'mapping mode' when the problem occurs?
As the mapper identifies the prompt without requiring any triggers to help it out this could very well be the cause of the issue. An access violation usually occurs when a pointer has been damaged or not properly initialized. If it isn't properly initialized the pointer is dangling and can point to anything. If you are unlucky it points to 'inaccessible' memory and yields an access violation error on reading/writing to that address. |

also did you download the Mdac files for your upgrade to windows that Zmud needs?
Search Mdac if you do not know what I am talking about, was discussed back at the beggining of 2003 in this forum. |

Will do. I'll try a search on Mdac. The problem only happens in certain zones in the mud, but it happens regularly in those zones, whether I have the mapper open or not. Could it be some issue with something the mud is sending me?
