can't load index |
I use zMud 6.62 w/ a map I began in an earlier version (6.2ish, maybe?). The map db is a whopping 12mb, all in one giant zone. Since moving to the new map format, room creation is excruciatingly slow. I have read all the other posts, and tried all the suggestions to no avail. Recently, I entered a disconnected portion of the mud and decided to experiement. Creating a new zone didn't help. Creating a new map, however, did. The difference in speed is simply astounding. Enough so, that I'm tempted to start creating new areas in empty maps and then merging them. At any rate, when I decided to load up my original map after my experiments, zMud failed repeatadly to do so, complaining about being unable to load an index. Opening the db w/ ms access revealed no errors in the data. Luckily, I had a backup made a month or so earler that does load properly. Still, quite a bit was lost. Why did choosing to create a new map corrupt the old one, and how can I undo it?

Hrm... interesting. Replacing the backup w/ the mdb zmud wouldn't load w/o choosing "load" from the map menu causes the original map to load properly. Still... something is probably quite wrong here.
At any rate, I'm happy to have recovered my precious map data.
Now, does anyone have any fresh ideas on how to speed up the mapper? Room creation presently induces a 2-3 second lag. Makes mapping an akward and extremely dangerous task. Is it just that zMud can't handle huge databases w/ speed?
