Slow Speed in Create mode

Morning,

I was hoping you could help me out with an issue I appear to have with zmud at the moment.

Basically it is now getting hard to map efficently. Moving from room to room is taking about 5 seconds. The process goes something like this:

-move direction
-room name and exits gets displayed on screen (nothing on mapper yet)
-hard drive gets accesed
-wait several seconds (zmud freezes - cant even clear input field)
-then prompt comes up and room is produced on mapper

Kinda makes me an easy target on a pk mud.

I have windows98 666mhz, and currently run zmud 6.56, with 500 megs of ram. The map has approx 6000 rooms now. When I first got zmud I followed the instructions about the various drivers. Most of them rooms have a color and room cost assigned.

Whn I am in follow mode everything seems to run pretty smoothly, I can run around like a breeze.

Any suggestions on what can be causing this and how I can fix it?

-defrag?
-get those drivers and reinstall again?
-uninstall and reinstall zmud gain?
-reconfigure mappers settings?
-break map up? - is it too big?
-some other utility to clean map?
-other?

Thanks in advance
Cheers

Since you're using a beta version, you should read the beta forum posts about mapper speed. Go back to version 6.50 (January). If you don't find a solution, repost your question there. Be sure to read the sticky thread, READ THIS BEFORE REPORTING BUGS, and provide the necessary details if you decide to make a bug-report.

Take a few moments to complete the application form. You'll find the link to it on the main Forum page, in the section about the Beta forum.
