zmud and my wireless network

I have a desktop and a laptop both running xp professional. Desktop uses cable modem to linksys router to ethernet cable to computer, and of course, zmud works just fine. Laptop connects to the router via wireless network card. Now, all my internet apps on my laptop work just fine except zmud. Iexplorer, norton antivirus, outlook express, whatever, they all work fine. Zmud tells me that I don't have a connection to the internet. I have it set up exactly the same as the desktop, which is to say, there are no special connection settings. I am not using a proxy server, socks, telnet, anything in my options.
I have been told that zmud uses a telnet protocol which is different from the http protocal that all the other applications are using, and that I will probably have to set up zmud with a telnet server. Now, I don't know much at all about networking, so I really don't have any idea why I would need to do this, let alone how to do it!
Don't know if it matters, but my wireless card is a cisco brand, and the router is a linksys 4 port wireless router.

Help!

An additional bit of info. I have my computers networked together via a network bridge, which was set up by xp through running the network wizard.

Hi. I'm also using a Linksys wireless internet connection. I'm not using a wireless card, though, I'm using the USB wireless network adapter. I'm also running WinXP and my computers are networked via a network bridge as well. I have no problems with zMUD working. Have you made sure you're using the right address and/or port for the MUD you are trying to run?

Yeah, the mud I use is in the zmud mudlist. There is no chance I am trying the wrong mud. Anyway, zmud won't even let me register or anything. It says I don't have a connection long before I even try to connect to a mud! Thanks anyway, because I do think it will end up being a simple solution.
