At first I thought that worked, I held the shift button, opened in offline mode and repositioned the windows as stated.

A little late, but a different approach:
use numpad as normal for normal walking
use ALT+<nunpad> for second set of directional commands
EX: ALT+4 <on numpad> will 'look west'
